PRACTICE ROOM

  • I couldn’t get the Quizlet to work, though I also don’t know if it really matters because I’m on the keyboard. I pretty much just practiced Aria of the Soul the entire time, and have improved massively. When going at my own pace, I even executed it flawlessly. I tried going with the song playing at the same time, and found I tend to panic a bit and lose my place easily.

CLASSROOM

People used to think harmony came from the heavens. Tonic and D-something are important, but I hesitated to right about it and now can’t remember (-_-“). Sus-notes are surprisingly epic, gotta remember to use them later for sure. Dissonance was hidden using suspended notes. Augmenting and diminishing triads really change up the vibe.

LAB

I learned how to put the chords in, as well as how to avoid making them sound bad.

OUTSIDE / JOURNAL / IDEAS

It makes it sound infinitely better when you use them correctly, and like that one person I can’t remember said, using them tells a story. I feel like I have more control of my music now that I’ve learned about the Tonic and Dominant.

  • Tonic (1 and 8 chords)
    • Root note creates a feeling of resolution and stability
  • Supertonic, Mediant, Submediant (2, 3, 6 chords)
    • Moderate tension, useful for transitions
  • Dominant, Subdominant, Leading Tone (4, 5, 7 chords)
    • Create lots of tension to get to the tonic

STUDIO

Watch this informative video by Jake Lizzio. Experiment with notes on your guitar and try playing along with him. If you cannot do this play just the C note or chord every time he plays it. DELETE ALL OF MR. LE DUC’s INSTRUCTIONS DETAILED ABOVE AFTER COMPLETING THEM

CONTROL ROOM

Tune your guitar, bass or keyboard. Try recording two tracks of guitar, bass, or keyboard.  One with the single notes like Jake Lizzio showed you above and a second with the lower C bass notes to make a simple progression. Remember two notes playing at the same time is harmonyKeep it simple.  Refer to your Quizlet Guitar Strings / Notes Flashcards if you need help remembering the guitar notes on the first three frets. Set a timer. Stop playing before you feel like Chewbacca below.

Write a short reflection here about what you thought. DELETE ALL OF MR. LE DUC’s INSTRUCTIONS DETAILED ABOVE AFTER COMPLETING THEM
